Cybersecurity, air gapping, and TAA: Talking IP KVM tech trends on Techsplanation 2.0

In this episode of Techsplanation 2.0 by JB&A, host Nick Smith speaks with Matrox Video Product Manager Catherine Koutsaris on tech trends and security in the AV and broadcast markets. Nick begins by sharing some of the emerging technologies we can expect to see make waves in 2023, including the first-ever truly wireless TV and 8K OLEDs.  

Nick pivots to discuss the latest in cybersecurity news, highlighting the increasing sophistication of cyberattacks and the need for improved security measures. One such measure is air gapping, which is when a computer or network is isolated from unsecured networks, allowing for a much higher level of safety and security regarding malicious attacks. Matrox IP KVMs help safeguard air gapping through the physical separation of user and device to help prevent unauthorized access. Additionally, IP KVMs allow users to seamlessly switch between multiple systems without compromising security. 

Another method for increasing the security of a system is network segmentation. This involves dividing a network into multiple segments with different levels of security, so that the most sensitive areas are completely isolated from those with less stringent security requirements. In the event of an attack, this would isolate the affected part of the network, preventing any further spread of malicious code or data.   

Finally, Catherine defines what it means when a product is TAA-compliant. Typically, a requirement of many contractors, products labeled as TAA-compliant have either been manufactured in a TAA-compliant country or substantially altered in a TAA-compliant country. This ensures that the product is compliant with all applicable TAA regulations and provides an additional assurance of security and reliability to the end user.
